HONORS/AWARDS

SOLO EXHIBITS:

2023: Invited to have a Solo Exhibit in "The Vault" at the D'Art Center during the month of July. The reception took place on Thursday, July 6th. This exhibit included eleven of Nancy's "Whimsical Birds" (which are NFS--Not For Sale). Another wall had paintings that were "On Sale," because she is retiring from her second career--that of being a professional artist.

2020: Invited to have a solo exhibit of more than 200 paintings and drawings at Wells Fargo Advisors on the 18th floor of 999 Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA. Most of the paintings remained there throughout the pandemic.

2019: Oct. 15-Dec. 31. Solo Exhibit at Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists-Virginia Beach.

HONORS:

In a Hampton Roads art competition, Nancy's painting "The Kiss" was among those selected to be exhibited for one year (from April 2023 to April 2024) in the Brock Cancer Center for the Virginia Oncology Association. Each artist selected was awarded $600 for the loan of their artwork.

During May, June, and July 2023, Nancy's two paintings "Destruction and Rebirth" and "Display, Mate, Parent, Repeat" were in a Chesapeake Bay Art Association show at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach.

“Ecuador Remembered” won the competition to be on the cover of the Chesapeake Bay Art Association newsletter for the month of March 2016 and then in the calendar for 2017.

Selected, as a 2012 Tidewater Art Alliance award winner, to display for one year three paintings in Senator Mark Warner’s Office in Norfolk, VA.

Four paintings selected for BEST OF AMERICA: LANDSCAPE ARTISTS. Williamsburg: Kennedy Publishing Company but company went bankrupt before publication. Recession 2008-09.

SPEECHES and TALKS:

On April 5, 2023, Nancy, the first full-time Director of Women's Studies at Old Dominion University, gave a speech about the seven years that she served in that position. She was part of a panel on the topic "Women's Studies: The Past, Present, and Future." The other speakers were Janet Katz (Director when Women's Studies was becoming a Department) and Elizabeth Groenveld (the current Director). This event was held in the ODU library to a full audience, mostly of students.

INTERNATIONAL, NATIONAL, REGIONAL, AND STATE EXHIBITS:

"Eavesdropping on the Conversation" was accepted into the 2022 Virginia Watercolor Exhibit held in the Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro, VA. This painting (30"H x 30"W) was done in watercolors and black gesso. The exhibit was held from June 10th to September 23, 2022. The juror was Paul Jackson, an internationally known artist. Because this was the third time Nancy's painting was in this statewide exhibit, she received a certificate awarding her the title of "Signature Artist." As a Signature Artist in the Virginia Watercolor Society (VWS), Nancy Topping Bazin has the privilege of adding VWS after her signature in any future paintings she might do.

"Lives of Birds" accepted for the 2021 Virginia Watercolor Society Exhibit in Portsmouth, VA. The exhibit took place from June 12th to September 12, 2021 at the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center (400-420 High St.). Internationally known artist Linda Baker was the juror.

"Bird Watching" from the Birdland Series accepted into a national exhibit organized by the Georgia Watercolor Society in Atlanta, Georgia.  The exhibit was in the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art from March 14 to April 26, 2020.  The juror was Linda Baker, AWS, NWS, TWSA, GWS.

“Wow! Harpy Eagles Are REALLY Big!” accepted in 2018 for the Twenty-Seventh Annual Exhibit (statewide) of the Central Virginia Watercolor Guild at the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville, VA. The juror was M. Stephen Doherty, artist, teacher, editor-in-chief of American Artist magazine for 31 years, and currently editor of Plein Air magazine.

2023 AWARDS

At the PrimePlus Spring 2023 exhibit, Nancy's painting called "Four Sailboats" won First Prize in the Professional Mixed Media Category. "Creatures to Discover" (acrylic ink on Terraskin--stone paper) and "Looking Up--Hope and Faith" (a drawing) both won Second Prizes in their Professional Categories.

2022 AWARDS

June 6-June 27, 2022 - "Spanish Fishing Nets" won First Prize in the Professional Mixed Media category and "A Place to Relax" won Second Prize in the Professional Pastels category at the Senior Artfest in the Prime Plus senior center in Norfolk, VA.  Juror: Chantel Randolph et al. 

2019 AWARDS

June 6, 2019 – “Dancing Cranes” won First prize in Professional Watercolor and “Daydreaming” won Second Prize in Professional Drawing at the PrimePlus 2019 ArtFest. Juror: Susan Bernard, Former Director of the Norfolk Art Commission and former Executive Director of the D’Art Center.

March 15, 2019 – Honorable Mention for Body of Work at The Artists Gallery in Virginia Beach Art Center. Juror: Lynne Sward, Artist.

2018 AWARDS

July 2018 -- At the All Media exhibit at the For Arts Sake Gallery in Henrico, VA, Nancy received an Honorable Mention for her whimsical bird painting “Affectionate Siblings.” Juror: Kim Hall.

June 1, 2018 – Merit Award for artwork in the Gloucester Art Festival at Arts on the Main Art Gallery.  Juror: Jeff Harrison, Curator Emeritus of the Chrysler Museum. Mid-Atlantic regional exhibit.

June 7, 2018 – “Patterned Landscape” won Third Prize in the Professional Mixed Media Category at ArtFest 2018 sponsored by PrimePlus in Norfolk, VA.  The jurors were Dorothy Coakley and Debra Burrell, Norfolk Arts.

April 4, 2018 – Award of Merit for “Beauty Lies Beneath” in exhibit by Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists at Cape Henry Collegiate.  Juror: Jeff Warden, Chair of Art Department and Director of the Phillips Gallery at Cape Henry Collegiate.
